Top current needs

FOOD IS NEEDED URGENTLY ($1297 Dollars) to feed 401 children in our care.

As a result of Covid-19 Lock down  malnutrition has reached alarming levels and is expected to worsen in the months ahead

Corona virus lockdown has caused our children to go hungry, we need to survive and your immediate help is very important to us.

The lockdown has left Ugandan children on their knees  since  its  inception  on 21st March  2020 to combat  the  scourge which has crippled the  economy.

We find life utterly regrettable to the vulnerable poor children facing life the hardest way. The pandemic is so alarming but we remain praying that you join hands with St. Athanasius to bring back smiles, love, hope and to protect these children a midst the challenges faced at the institution in meeting children’s desired basic needs. Hunger is a more immediate threat than the virus.

Together, we can take urgent action to prevent children from sliding even deeper into tragedy. Now is the time to act and help children survive.”

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

St. Athanasius foundation whose founder members had for a long time watched in agony the plight of destitute children whose lot is to sleep on streets without a blanket and to share food with abandoned domestic animals and wild birds. The members on the 18/March /2005 resolved to find ways and means of intervening in this children’s suffering, initially by gradual process of absorbing these children into a normal life by attracting them to a care center where they could be given the basic necessities of life and subsequently turn them into self-sustaining individuals.

The group looked down into the many problems that were hindering their community particularly the young generation. Some of the problems encountered included:

     High level of illiteracy

  • Drought
  • Lack of quality education in the area
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Famine
  • Low household income

The resulting challenges were many and many children were not going to school and many were so needy. To address this situation, the school initiators resolved to start a school in the community to care for the needy children and OVCs and children in the age bracket of 3-16 years.

VISION
To ensure equal opportunities for all children who would otherwise grow up with an indelible grudge against society.

OUR MISSION
Our mission is to give comfort, protection and care to the children who litter the streets of the city, mainly orphans of the AIDS scourge and of single parents who have left their children loose, to face the vices of urban life.

Problem statement

As one of our of our development objective is to have good facilities at the school and offer our pupils a good learning environment, one of our challenging  problems have been lack of a good  sanitation facilities  both for pupils and our staff. The current latrine we have has only two stances and can’t accommodate boys and girls and it’s not in a good condition.

Project Outcomes

By the end of this project, the following outcomes are expected:

  • 401 pupils and 23 staff members  will have access to a good hygiene and a dignified  latrine facility
  • The  latrine will reduce a number of diseases which affect pupils due to lack of good sanitation facilities
  • The school enrollment shall increase once parents have assurance on good sanitation facilities for their children
  • The facility shall reduce on absenteeism of girls in upper classes who misses school due to lack of a clean environment during their menstruation periods.
  • The toilet facility shall also improve on the sanitation for the community since the school is located in an urban area.

PROJECT     MONITORING

The project is to be implemented by the school administration and is to be supported by the school management committee and who are expected to contribute material making up 15% of the estimated total cost of the project. The members shall monitor the project progress and ensure value for money during project implementation.
